A special NIA court on August 20 rejected the bail plea of Insha Jan, also known as Insha Tariq, accused in the 2019 Pulwama suicide attack.
Special Judge Prem Sagar held that there was sufficient material to presume the accusations prima facie true. The court applied the statutory bar under Section 43-D(5) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, which prevents release once that threshold is met.
The February 2019 attack killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel when a vehicle-borne explosive was detonated against a convoy in Jammu and Kashmir.
Insha Jan has remained in custody since her arrest. The NIA has charged several individuals in the case. The bail rejection keeps her behind bars as the trial continues.
The decision underscores the strict standards applied to UAPA cases involving high-casualty attacks on security forces.
