The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam announced a major organisational overhaul on Saturday aimed at bringing younger leaders into key posts.
Based on recommendations from a committee appointed by party president M.K. Stalin, district unit secretaries will face a maximum age of 70 and a limit of three terms. Local units will have an age limit of 45.
The changes are designed to refresh leadership at every level after years of the same faces holding posts. Stalin has repeatedly spoken of the need to prepare the next generation of party workers.
DMK remains the ruling party in Tamil Nadu. The revamp comes as the party looks toward future assembly and parliamentary contests.
Officials said the new rules will be applied gradually as current terms expire, avoiding abrupt disruption.
