NASA engineers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory have freed additional power on Voyager 2, allowing its remaining science instruments to continue operating for at least one more year. The nearly 50-year-old spacecraft has been gradually shutting down instruments as its power supply declines. Since 2024 two instruments on each Voyager craft have already been switched off.
