El Obeid dormitory strike kills at least five; one count has reached ten
A drone hit the Shikan boys' dormitory at Kordofan University around 11 p.m. on Sunday. The building was holding displaced people. Darfur24 reported five dead and 27 injured. A later count, carried by Arab News, put the dead at ten. The army says the RSF fired it. The RSF has not been independently confirmed as the operator.

A drone struck the Shikan boys' dormitory at the University of Kordofan in El Obeid on Sunday night, in a building that was being used to house displaced people. Local sources told Darfur24 that five civilians were killed and 27 people, including women and children, were injured. The strike was placed at about 11 p.m. A later tally, reported by Arab News and recorded on the Wikipedia current-events desk, put the death toll at 10. The two figures are two days apart in the reporting, and both should be kept until a named hospital or a named emergency room publishes a list.
The operator is attributed, not demonstrated. Sources speaking to Darfur24 said the drone was believed to belong to the Rapid Support Forces. Darfur24 said it could not independently verify that. The army has blamed the RSF for the strike on the dormitory. No RSF statement confirming or denying this particular hit was in the copy available on Friday. El Obeid is the capital of North Kordofan, and it has been hit by drones through the recent months of the Kordofan campaign. Residential blocks, fuel stations, and water and power sites have all been struck. A university dormitory used as a shelter fits that pattern. It does not, by itself, identify the crew.
The building is the fact that makes the casualty list readable. Shikan is a boys' dormitory. On Sunday night it was not only students. Displaced people from several parts of Sudan were in it. A strike on a dormitory at 11 p.m. is a strike on people sleeping, and the injured list includes women and children because the rooms were no longer a student residence in any ordinary sense. Universities in El Obeid, as in other Sudanese cities cut off by the war, have become shelters because they have walls, water points and a name. That use is what put families in a building marked on a map as a college.
The toll gap matters for the record. Five dead and 27 injured is a same-day local count. Ten dead is a count that arrived after Sunday, as people died of injuries or as bodies were confirmed. A rise from five to ten is plausible. It is not the same as a confirmed ten. Anyone writing the incident should say at least five, with a later report of ten, and should not average them. The 27 injured have not been revised in the copy used here. If the dead rose because some of the injured died, the injured figure will fall. That revision has not been published.
El Obeid sits inside a week in which the Sudanese army said it had taken al-Mazroub, an RSF base to the west, and in which North Kordofan has been the active front. A dormitory strike in the city and a claimed capture of a town 90 kilometres away are not the same event. They are the same map. The army's advance claim, if it holds, does not stop a drone from reaching a university in the capital of the state. Drones have been the RSF's way of hitting cities it does not hold. The army's way of answering has been to name the RSF and to keep moving on the ground. Neither answers the families in Shikan.
What is still missing is a list. Five or ten names, ages, and the place they were displaced from would turn a drone report into a record. Until that list exists, the verified core is the building, the hour, and the two casualty counts. A drone hit the Shikan dormitory at Kordofan University around 11 p.m. on Sunday. Displaced people were inside. At least five were killed. One later count says ten.
