External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and conveyed a personal message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, fertilisers and high-technology sectors. Jaishankar was also scheduled to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
India and Russia have maintained steady engagement on energy supplies and defence-related areas even as both countries navigate broader geopolitical pressures. The talks form part of regular high-level contacts aimed at deepening economic ties.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to visit Canada and the United States from 25 August to 2 September 2026, including attendance at the G20 Finance Ministers meeting, providing a parallel track of diplomatic activity.
The Jaishankar-Putin interaction underscores the continuity of the India-Russia partnership amid shifting global alignments.
