Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman begins a nine-day visit to Canada and the United States on August 25. The trip includes the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting and bilateral talks with counterparts in both countries.
The itinerary runs through September 2. In Canada she will discuss trade, investment and economic cooperation. In the United States the focus includes the G20 agenda, financial regulation and the broader bilateral economic relationship.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal separately noted that India is negotiating free-trade agreements with partners representing a combined GDP of $15 trillion and aims to cover 75 percent of global trade through existing and future deals.
The visit occurs against the backdrop of the new US-Canada tariff dispute and ongoing global trade tensions linked to Iran sanctions and other measures. Indian officials have emphasised diversification of export markets and supply chains.
Outcomes from the G20 meetings and the bilateral conversations will shape India's approach to capital flows, climate finance and digital trade rules in the coming months.
