External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will travel to Russia on 23 and 24 August for an official visit. The invitation came from Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.
Talks are expected to cover key regional and international developments as well as issues of mutual interest between India and Russia. The visit occurs against the backdrop of continued energy and defence cooperation between the two countries.
India has maintained a steady diplomatic channel with Moscow throughout the Ukraine conflict and has increased purchases of Russian crude. The two sides also cooperate in multilateral formats including BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
No detailed agenda has been released, but the timing places the meeting ahead of further contacts later in the year. Indian officials typically use such visits to review ongoing projects and to exchange views on global flashpoints.
