Myanmar Military Airstrike Hits Buddhist Monastery, Kills 14

An airstrike by Myanmar’s military killed at least 14 people at a Buddhist monastery in the Sagaing region on Friday. Twenty others were injured. The attack took place while participants were attending a meditation retreat.

Local sources and monitoring groups reported the strike on the religious site. The military has conducted repeated air operations in areas held by resistance forces since the 2021 coup.

Sagaing has seen some of the heaviest fighting between junta troops and local defence forces. Civilian and religious buildings have been hit in previous incidents.
