Ukrainian drones killed two people in the Moscow region overnight and hit the Volodarskaya oil storage and distribution facility, the largest depot in the region, in one of the biggest attacks of the war on the capital area. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said more than 650 drones were launched toward the city from the evening of 5 October, and that most were shot down at distant approaches.
Governor Andrei Vorobyov said 185 drones were destroyed or brought down over the Moscow region. His casualty count moved during the morning. An early note spoke of one dead and six injured. A later account, carried by Reuters and by Meduza, put the dead at two and the injured at seven, then nine. The two dead were identified by age and place. Vorobyov said the body of a 71-year-old man was pulled from the rubble of a house, and that a 20-year-old man was killed in a nearby village. Meduza named that village as Radumlya, in the Solnechnogorsk district.
The damage list is domestic as well as industrial. Vorobyov said 47 houses, four apartments and three cars were damaged. Meduza, citing his update, said 47 private homes were damaged in seven municipalities. In Istra, ten private homes were damaged in Safontyevo, Torlopovo, Gorki and Yadromino, along with outbuildings and two cars. In Domodedovo, a private home caught fire in Lobanovo and another was destroyed in Barybino. Residents of Istra and of the Volokolamsk and Domodedovo districts were among the injured, three of them in hospital.
The depot is the military fact inside the civilian toll. War blogger Yuri Podolyaka said an oil storage tank was hit at Volodarskaya. Ukrainian monitoring channels and the independent channel Astra posted photos and video of a fire at the linear production and dispatching station. Reuters described the site as a major fuel depot and noted Transneft in the context of the strike. A hit on the region's largest storage site is a different target from a damaged cottage in Radumlya. Both are in the same night's tally.
Russia has intensified its own strikes on Kyiv, including on bridges across the Dnipro, with waves of missiles and drones by night and day. The Moscow attack sits in that exchange. Sobyanin's figure of more than 650 drones is a launch claim. Vorobyov's figure of 185 brought down over his region is an interception claim. Neither number is an independent count of airframes. The confirmed ground facts are the two dead, the injured, the 47 houses, and a fire at Volodarskaya that bloggers and local channels recorded.
For fuel logistics, Volodarskaya is not a symbolic tank. It is the largest storage and distribution facility in the region that supplies the capital. A fire there does not empty Moscow's pumps on the same morning. It does take capacity offline at a site that was built to smooth supply, and it does so inside a week when Russian strikes have been aimed at Ukrainian energy and river crossings. The exchange is now hitting storage on both sides of the argument about who can keep fuel moving.
The names that are public are the officials' and the ages of the dead. The 20-year-old in Radumlya and the 71-year-old under the rubble are the civilian line in a communique that otherwise counts drones. The next figure that would change the story is whether the Volodarskaya tank that was hit is back in service, and whether the injury count settles at seven or nine. On Tuesday morning it had not settled.
The village names are the check on the official summary. Safontyevo, Torlopovo, Gorki, Yadromino, Lobanovo, Barybino and Radumlya are ordinary settlements in Istra, Domodedovo and Solnechnogorsk. A communique that lists them is harder to inflate than a drone total. Forty-seven houses across seven municipalities is a repair bill for district administrations, not a claim about air defence. The oil fire is the claim that sits outside that bill. Until Transneft or the emergencies ministry publishes a tank-by-tank status for Volodarskaya, the public evidence of the industrial hit is the video the channels posted and the blogger's identification of the site.
