Lisa Su tells Taipei AMD will substantially raise chip supply in 2027
The AMD chief executive said in Taipei on Tuesday that supply has already risen through 2026 and will rise substantially in 2027 to meet AI demand. She has met Foxconn and is due to meet TSMC. AMD's market value has recently passed 1 trillion dollars. She said the firm is now planning three to five years ahead and needs more advanced wafer capacity.

AMD chief executive Lisa Su said in Taipei on Tuesday that the company will substantially increase chip supply in 2027, after raising it through 2026, to meet demand from artificial-intelligence buyers. She told reporters one purpose of the visit was to make sure the supply chain can ramp both CPU and GPU output. She has met Foxconn and is due to meet TSMC.
AMD's market value has recently passed 1 trillion dollars in the same rally that has carried Nvidia, its closest rival in AI graphics processors. Su did not give a unit count for 2027. The phrase she used was substantially increase. She said demand is visible for several years and that AMD is now planning three to five years ahead.
What she asked for, and what she would not answer
Asked whether TSMC had discussed a possible investment in Texas with AMD, Su did not answer directly. She said the company needs more advanced wafer capacity to meet demand. That is a capacity sentence, not a site announcement. The meetings on this trip are with Foxconn, already held, and TSMC, still ahead. Both are Taiwanese. A Texas fab, if it is in the conversation, was not confirmed by her in Taipei.
The split she is managing is the one every AI chip house is managing: GPU orders that outrun the wafers, and CPU orders that ride the same server racks. She named both. A supply increase in 2027 is a foundry slot booked now, which is why the trip is happening in October 2026 rather than in the year the chips ship.
The trillion-dollar context
A market value above 1 trillion dollars is new for AMD and still a fraction of Nvidia, which traders on Tuesday were marking toward 6 trillion. The supply sentence is the operating claim underneath the valuation. If 2027 output does not rise by enough to fill orders, the valuation is a bet on a ramp that slipped. Su's wording does not quantify the ramp. It dates it, and it locates the constraint at advanced wafers.
The meeting that has not happened yet
Foxconn is done. TSMC is not. The line that would turn Tuesday's remark into a capacity figure is a process node, a wafer start, or a Texas confirmation she declined to give. Until one of those is said, the public commitment is a year, 2027, and a direction, up, from a chief executive standing in Taipei between two suppliers.
