A large Ganesh idol known as Bhuleshwaracha Raja collapsed during its arrival ceremony in Mumbai’s Bhuleshwar area on the evening of 22 August 2026. Two people died and five others, including two children, were injured.
The incident occurred around 10 pm on Balaram Merchant Road near Kabutarkhana at Jay Ambe Chowk. Local organisers and municipal authorities are examining the structure and handling procedures that led to the fall.
Emergency services treated the injured at the scene. The deaths have prompted immediate safety reviews of large processional idols ahead of the main Ganesh festival period.
