Port Authority Police responded to Delta Flight 938 from Los Angeles to John F. Kennedy Airport around 11 p.m. on 11 October 2026 after reports of a physically abusive passenger. The passenger was identified as 54-year-old actress Selma Blair. Two flight attendants reported injuries. One was taken to hospital. Blair was taken into custody and transported to hospital for evaluation. The FBI is investigating.
Blair’s publicist said she experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct and that she is currently in stable condition after receiving attention upon landing. Law enforcement sources told outlets that one attendant sustained a bite mark and another a laceration or cut. Cockpit audio referenced a bloody nose and bite marks, and a request for medical personnel. Reports also described an attempt to open an aircraft door, though Delta stated it had no record of that specific action.
Blair was restrained aboard the aircraft. After landing, she was alleged to have kicked a Port Authority officer in an ambulance and assaulted a nurse at the hospital. Sources said she faces two counts of assault related to those incidents in addition to the onboard matter. The violation summons issued by the FBI carries a potential sentence of up to one year. Blair has publicly discussed living with multiple sclerosis for years. She was travelling with a service dog, which was later placed with her attorney.
Delta said it has zero tolerance for unruly behaviour and that the safety of customers and crew comes first. The flight landed ahead of schedule and was not operationally affected beyond the response at the gate. Port Authority confirmed the response and the injuries to two attendants. Blair is known for roles in Legally Blonde, Hellboy and Cruel Intentions. She has not issued a personal statement beyond the representative’s comment on the medical emergency.
The incident is one of several recent cases of disruptive passenger behaviour on commercial flights. Airlines and regulators have increased enforcement after a rise in such events. Medical evaluation was prioritised for Blair. Further charges and the outcome of the FBI inquiry will determine next steps. Her representative has not specified the nature of the medical emergency.
