NSA Ajit Doval Arrives in Beijing for Boundary Talks with China’s Wang Yi

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval arrived in Beijing on Monday ahead of the 25th round of talks between the Special Representatives of India and China on the boundary question.

Doval is scheduled to meet his Chinese counterpart, Politburo member and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, on Tuesday. He will also call on Chinese Vice President Han Zheng.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the talks would involve in-depth communication on the boundary question in the spirit of understandings reached between the leaders of both countries. The sides are also expected to exchange views on bilateral relations and regional and international issues.

The previous round, held in August 2025 when Wang visited India, saw both sides agree on the need for a political perspective on the overall relationship while seeking a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable framework for settling the boundary question, in line with the 2005 Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles.

The visit takes place weeks before China is expected to send President Xi Jinping to India for the BRICS Summit on 12-13 September. It follows a Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination meeting on 6 August that reviewed the situation along the Line of Actual Control and discussed boundary delimitation, border management and mechanism-building.

India has consistently linked the state of bilateral ties to peace and tranquillity on the border. China has described the current border situation as generally stable. Both sides have taken steps to stabilise relations after the 2020 Galwan clash and the prolonged stand-off in eastern Ladakh.
