The Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday that 320 Indian nationals remain missing or uncontactable after the flash flood that tore down the Nepal-Tibet border on Wednesday. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal added about 100 persons of Indian origin, many of them on the Kailash Mansarovar route with other passports. The number had been 288 and then 290 on Thursday. He said the count moves.
Ninety-six Indians who were stuck on the Chinese side have walked into Nepal and are to be flown home. A group of 400 people stranded in the Tibet Autonomous Region is safe and in touch with families and the embassy in Beijing. Twenty-one Indians from Tamil Nadu arrived in New Delhi on Friday after coming through Kathmandu. Control rooms are running in Delhi, Kathmandu and Beijing.
Thursday's breakdown had listed 73 workers at the Trishuli-I hydroelectric project among the uncontactable, plus tour groups from Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Kerala and a cluster near Keung. The embassy is speaking to the project head. Around 200 people on the Tibet side had already asked for evacuation help before Friday's revision.
What India is sending, and what the river is doing
Two aircraft have already carried 47.5 tonnes of relief. Jaiswal said another planeload would follow what Nepal requested. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a meeting with the envoys in Kathmandu and Beijing. Three bodies have come downstream into Uttar Pradesh.
Nepal's confirmed dead have moved through the 500s; one Friday figure sat at 579 with nearly 2,000 still missing. China has reported deaths and hundreds missing in Tibet. A debris lake on the Bhotekoshi forced a pause in the search, then dropped. The Indian list is a separate ledger: names the ministry can and cannot reach.
