Houthis hit Najran and Jizan airports as Yemen's government claims Mocha
Saudi civil aviation authorities said three people were hurt and buildings damaged in strikes on Najran and Jizan airports. Yemen's government says it has retaken Mocha and Dhubab near Bab al-Mandeb. The Houthis deny those losses and claim further strikes the Saudis have not confirmed.

Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation said strikes on the airports at Najran and Jizan wounded three people and caused material damage. Both airports sit near the Yemen border. The Houthis said they had fired at southern Saudi airports and military sites. The three injuries are the confirmed human toll on the Saudi side of this round. Claims of a hit on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, and on an Aramco site at Rabigh, have not been confirmed by the Saudi authorities.
The strikes landed as Yemen's internationally recognised government pressed a counteroffensive it calls a strategic push toward Sanaa, which the Houthis have held since 2014. Rashad al-Alimi, chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, announced the operation. Government forces said they had retaken the port of Mocha after heavy fighting and had taken positions in the Dhubab district of Taiz, cutting roads toward the Bab al-Mandeb strait. The units named in those claims include the Homeland Shield Forces and the Giants Brigades.
The Houthis deny both losses. Fuad Sinan, the Houthi deputy governor of Taiz, posted a video he said was filmed on the streets of Mocha, to argue the city had not fallen. Al Jazeera said it could not independently verify either side's battlefield map. Fighting is reported as intense south of Bab al-Mandeb and in Taiz. A reader should treat Mocha and Dhubab as claimed, not as settled, until a second source places government units inside both.
The Saudi-led coalition described its own air effort in numbers that are also claims. Spokesman Major-General Turki al-Maliki said about 100 fighter jets were supporting government forces, that hundreds of Houthi targets had been hit, and that the coalition had put air cover over Bab al-Mandeb. Saudi defence minister Khalid bin Salman said an alliance had been activated to deter further Houthi attacks. Those sentences describe intent and a force package. They do not confirm the ground line at Mocha.
Bab al-Mandeb is the operational point, whatever the status of any one town. The strait is the southern gate of the Red Sea. Shipping between the Indian Ocean and the Suez Canal passes it. The Houthis took Mocha and ground around the strait in mid-September, on the timeline carried by Al Jazeera. A government counter-move in early October is an attempt to reverse that gain before it hardens. If Dhubab stays in government hands, the coastal road to the strait is contested again. If the Houthi video from Mocha holds up, the port is not yet a government asset and the strait claim is ahead of the map.
The airport strikes are the part that does not depend on that argument. Najran and Jizan handled civil traffic. Three wounded and damaged buildings are enough to close a ramp, reroute a flight, and raise insurance questions for carriers that had started to treat southern Saudi fields as outside the Red Sea risk zone. A confirmed strike on two border airports, plus an unconfirmed claim on Riyadh, is a message about reach as much as about the battle for Mocha.
What to watch in the next 72 hours is physical, not rhetorical. Does a government video from inside Mocha answer Sinan's video? Do Najran and Jizan publish a reopening time? Does any independent shipping notice record a change in control on the Bab al-Mandeb shore? Until those exist, the verified core is the Saudi aviation statement: two airports, three wounded, material damage, and a ground war whose front line is still being argued in public by both commands.
