Hawk Fire Forces Mass Evacuations Near Reno as Flames Reach 13,000 Acres

Tens of thousands of residents near Reno, Nevada, were ordered to evacuate as the Hawk Fire expanded to 13,000 acres and threatened hundreds of homes.

The human-caused fire, under investigation, exploded in size overnight and stood at zero percent containment early Monday. Roughly 1,000 firefighters were assigned to the blaze, with officials preparing for continuous operations.

Evacuation orders covered areas on the edge of the city. Winds and dry conditions complicated containment efforts. Local authorities opened shelters and urged residents in threatened zones to leave immediately.

The fire is one of several active wildfires across the western United States during a period of elevated risk. State and federal resources have been mobilised to support local crews.
