Congress Flags 10-Day Delay in Proroguing Lok Sabha After Sine Die Adjournment

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Sunday described as abnormal the ten-day delay in proroguing the Lok Sabha after it was adjourned sine die on 13 August at the end of the monsoon session.

Ramesh asked whether the delay indicated government attempts to assemble the numbers required to clear a delimitation-related bill. Under normal procedure, prorogation follows shortly after sine die adjournment.

The monsoon session had followed its scheduled calendar. Opposition parties have previously used the period between adjournment and prorogation to press procedural and legislative points.

No formal response from the government on the timing of prorogation was issued by Monday morning. The issue remains a point of parliamentary procedure rather than an immediate legislative crisis.
