The Cockroach Janta Party intends to hold a “Lehra do Tiranga” march carrying the national flag at Central Park in Connaught Place on October 16, despite the New Delhi Municipal Council closing the park for administrative reasons on October 16 and 17.
Founder Abhijeet Dipke has called on supporters, political groups, and others to join. Delhi Police indicated conditional permission for flag waving and the national anthem under restrictions. More than 6,000 personnel were expected in the area. The Supreme Court refused an urgent hearing on a plea challenging the park closure. Traffic advisories listed restrictions on surrounding roads.
The planned gathering follows earlier detentions of CJP co-convenors and ongoing disputes over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Dipke has criticized the Chief Election Commissioner and framed the march as a response to restrictions on protest. Delhi Police and NDMC cited administrative needs for the closure. A similar gathering occurred earlier in Mumbai.
Authorities have not banned the march outright but limited the venue and movement. Conditional nod for certain symbolic acts leaves open the possibility of a smaller procession or alternative site. Court filings and police statements provide the public record of the constraints. The event tests how far organizers can proceed under the announced security footprint.
Previous CJP actions have drawn both support and official limits. The timing coincides with broader political activity around electoral rolls in multiple states. No final attendance numbers are available in advance. Post-event reports will show whether the march took place under the restrictions or was further constrained on the ground.
The closure of a central public space for two days illustrates the practical tools available to municipal and police authorities when large gatherings are announced. Organizers retain the option to adjust plans. The Supreme Court’s refusal of an immediate hearing means the administrative order stands for the scheduled dates.
