Widow's Bay leads Emmy Night 2 with eight crafts awards as The Pitt and DTF St. Louis score

Apple TV's Widow's Bay left the Peacock Theater on 6 September with eight Creative Arts Emmy awards, the largest haul of Night 2 at the 78th ceremony. HBO's DTF St. Louis took six. Prime Video's Spider-Noir, cancelled two days earlier, still left with five. The live Primetime broadcast is set for 14 September, with Mariska Hargitay hosting after she won two crafts prizes of her own on Night 1.

The first two nights are the old Creative Arts show under a new label. They decide crafts, guest work and a run of series categories that used to sit off-camera. Through Sunday, Widow's Bay led all programmes with eight wins. The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show starring Bad Bunny had seven, mostly from Night 1. DTF St. Louis and The Traitors each had six. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert closed its books with five, as did Spider-Noir. The Pitt and The Muppet Show had four apiece.

Who won the acting crafts

David Harbour won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for DTF St. Louis, his first Emmy. Linda Cardellini won Supporting Actress in the same series, also her first. Steven Conrad took directing and writing for the limited series. The show also won cinematography and picture editing in that field.

Betty Gilpin won Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for Widow's Bay. Shailene Woodley won Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Paradise. Ernest Harden Jr. won a guest prize for The Pitt. Julie Andrews won Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for Bridgerton. South Park won Outstanding Animated Program for the episode Sermon on the Mount, its first win in that category since 2013.

The Pitt, which led the drama nominations earlier in the summer with 25, won Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series. Widow's Bay won comedy casting. Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette won limited-series casting. Gavin Brivik and Andrew Bird beat Lady Gaga and Trey Parker in original music and lyrics for Need Someone, written for The Pitt. David Fleming won dramatic score for Widow's Bay.

Platform tally

Through two nights Apple TV led platforms with 19 awards. HBO Max had 16. Netflix had 13. NBC had seven, lifted by the Bad Bunny Super Bowl special. Peacock had six, CBS five, Disney+ four and Prime Video four. Those numbers will move on 14 September when the main series, lead acting and variety prizes are read on air.

Night 1 had already given The Late Show a cluster of farewell crafts: writing, short-form comedy, picture editing, technical direction and lighting. The Muppet Show and the documentary My Mom Jayne also scored. Hargitay's two wins arrived a week before she walks out to host.

Spider-Noir's five trophies, including one-hour cinematography, now sit on a show Prime Video has already dropped. That is an awkward line in any awards week. The crafts voters treated the work as finished television. The platform treated the series as closed.

The useful reading from Night 2 is narrower than a sweep claim. Widow's Bay has converted spring attention into crafts hardware. DTF St. Louis has two new Emmy-winning performances and a writing-directing pair. The Pitt has a casting prize and a song prize heading into the live show. None of that decides Best Drama or Best Comedy. It does decide which series enter 14 September with a stack of statues already on the table.
