Actress Selma Blair was released on $20,000 bail on Monday after pleading not guilty to two counts of assault in the second degree in Queens Criminal Court. The charges stem from an incident on Delta flight 938 from Los Angeles to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport on Sunday evening. Prosecutors allege she injured two flight attendants and later kicked a Port Authority police officer and a nurse.
Port Authority officers boarded the aircraft after it had parked at the gate following a report of a physically abusive passenger. Blair was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for evaluation. According to the criminal complaint, she bit one flight attendant and caused lacerations to another. While being secured on a stretcher she allegedly freed a leg and kicked an officer in the head and chest. She is also accused of kicking a nurse at the hospital. Blair’s lawyer told the court she had worked long hours on set, fell and struck her head on the plane, and missed her medication. A representative said she experienced a medical emergency and is now in stable condition.
The case was adjourned to 19 January 2027. In addition to the state assault charges, Blair received a federal summons alleging assaults within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States. No further details of the federal allegations have been released. Blair, known for roles in Cruel Intentions and Hellboy, has not issued a personal statement beyond the comments made by her counsel and representative.
Delta has not commented on the flight beyond confirming that the aircraft arrived and that law enforcement was called. The Port Authority Police Department identified Blair as the passenger involved. The incident occurred late Sunday; the arraignment took place on Monday evening. Blair remains free pending the next court date.
The complaint lists specific acts of physical contact with the flight attendants, the officer and the nurse. Medical records of the alleged victims have not been made public. The court set the bail options as $20,000 cash, $60,000 bond or $60,000 partially secured bond. Blair posted the cash amount and was released.
