Russian AI-Guided Drone Kills Three Ukrainian Soldiers

A Russian drone guided entirely by artificial intelligence killed three Ukrainian soldiers, according to Ukrainian officials. The system used an Nvidia chip and operated without real-time human control during the final attack phase.

The incident, reported by The New York Times, illustrates the rapid spread of commercial computing hardware into military applications. Nvidia states that it does not sell the devices in Russia, yet the chips appear on resale markets and are difficult to track once purchased.

Ukrainian forces have also deployed AI-assisted systems. The latest Russian use raises questions about the speed of decision-making in combat and the difficulty of attributing or interrupting autonomous attacks.

Military analysts note that once such systems are fielded, escalation becomes harder to reverse because both sides gain incentives to accelerate their own autonomous capabilities.
