Delhi Police registered an FIR against the use of pellet guns during a 20 July protest after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi staged a seven-hour dharna outside the Parliament Street police station on 21 August 2026.
The case rests on a complaint from 19-year-old Sahil Lochab, who suffered pellet injuries during the CJP-led march toward Parliament. Gandhi held a copy of the FIR after ending the sit-in.
The Hindu reported the sequence. Rapid Action Force personnel were deployed near the DCP office as the protest continued.
Gandhi had demanded action against those responsible for the pellet firing and questioned the police response. The registration of the FIR closed the immediate confrontation.
Separately, students in Ranchi attempted to burn effigies of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Gandhi during protests over recruitment exam irregularities, leading to a scuffle with police.
The pellet case now enters the formal investigation stage.
