Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the 57th Convocation Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where more than 3,000 students, including 587 PhD scholars, were conferred their degrees.
PM Modi attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest and congratulated the graduating students, their families, faculty members and the institute. He also presented IIT Delhi’s highest academic honours to meritorious students, including the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal and Perfect Ten Gold Medals.
Addressing the graduates, Modi urged them to keep the national interest at the centre of their work and emphasised the importance of contributing to the country beyond individual professional ambitions. He also expressed his pride in the graduating students and encouraged them as they begin the next phase of their careers.
A major technological development marked the occasion as well. Modi inaugurated Param Pragya, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility established at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus. The facility is intended to strengthen the institute’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, data science, advanced computing and interdisciplinary research.
Param Pragya is part of the broader expansion of high-performance computing infrastructure for scientific and technological research in India. The Department of Science and Technology’s 2025–26 annual report had identified the inauguration of the IIT Delhi facility as an upcoming development under the national supercomputing infrastructure programme.
The ceremony thus combined the institute’s annual academic milestone with the commissioning of new computing infrastructure aimed at supporting research-intensive work in AI and related fields.
