Pixxel raises $100 million, India's largest space-tech round
Temasek and Seraphim led the Series C. Total funding is now $195 million. Awais Ahmed plans to lift Indian production from 25 satellites a year to 100 at the Gigapixxel factory.

Pixxel closed a $100 million Series C on Monday, co-led by Singapore's Temasek and London-listed Seraphim Space Investment Trust. The Bengaluru and Los Angeles company called it the largest single funding round by an Indian space-technology firm. Total capital raised is now $195 million.
Existing backers Radical Ventures and growX Ventures returned. New money came from 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment. Google is already on the cap table from an earlier round. Pixxel did not publish a valuation. People familiar with earlier talks had put the company in a $450 million to $500 million range when the raise was still being sized.
Moneycontrol first reported in January that the firm was seeking about $55 million, with Eternal founder Deepinder Goyal among possible names. By May the target had grown to $80 million to $100 million as existing investors increased their bids. Seraphim had already told the London market on 4 August that it would put $25 million into Pixxel from its £137 million C Share issue.
What the money is for
Founder and chief executive Awais Ahmed, who started the company with Kshitij Khandelwal, said the round will stretch Pixxel past hyperspectral imaging. The next Honeybee satellites will add shortwave infrared. The firm also wants synthetic aperture radar and ultra-high-resolution optical cameras. Aurora, its software layer, is meant to stitch those feeds into products that a ministry or a mine can act on without hiring a remote-sensing team.
Ahmed told SpaceNews the Gigapixxel factory in India should open within months and raise annual output from 25 satellites to 100. The Los Angeles lab now builds one or two craft at a time. The new money is meant to take that line to 10 to 15 satellites a year, including an upgraded Honeybee due early next year.
Six Firefly hyperspectral satellites, launched in 2025, are already in orbit and selling data. Hyperspectral sensors record dozens of narrow wavelength bands. That lets an analyst separate crop stress from soil type, or a mineral signature from a similar-looking patch of rock, in a way a standard colour image cannot.
Contracts already on the books
Pixxel has contracts with NASA and the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office. It has won several iDEX challenges from India's Ministry of Defence. IN-SPACe selected it to lead a 12-satellite public-private Earth observation constellation, the first of that kind under the new Indian space rules. The company has also described an orbital data-centre demonstration satellite, a small craft that would process imagery in orbit rather than dump raw files to the ground.
India opened the sector to private firms after 2020. Pixxel was one of the early names that used that opening. The $100 million cheque is a measure of how far that market has moved in six years. It is also a test. Building 100 satellites a year is a factory problem, not a lab problem. Power, thermal control, and a stable launch cadence have tripped other smallsat firms that raised large rounds on a slide deck.
Where this sits in the wider market
Earth-observation demand is coming from insurers, farm traders, energy firms and defence ministries that want repeat coverage rather than a single pretty picture. Radar and shortwave infrared cost more to fly than a simple optical camera. That is why Temasek and a specialist space fund sat at the front of this round instead of a generalist consumer fund.
Ahmed's pitch is that a company that owns the satellites, the factory and the software can sell a finished answer. The risk is the same as in every vertically integrated space firm: a delay on the factory floor starves the software of fresh scenes, and the software then has less to sell.
For Indian policy the number that matters is the 25-to-100 production jump. IN-SPACe has argued that domestic manufacturing is the only way the country keeps a share of the value when constellations scale. Pixxel now has the cash to try that argument in metal rather than in a white paper.
The next public markers are straightforward. Watch whether Gigapixxel actually opens on the timetable Ahmed described, whether Honeybee flies early next year, and whether the 12-satellite IN-SPACe constellation moves from selection to a signed manufacturing schedule. Those three points will say more about the $100 million than the press release did.
