Pixxel closes $100 million Series C, India's largest space-tech round
Temasek and Seraphim led the round announced on 7 September. Total capital behind the Bengaluru company is now $195 million. Six Firefly satellites are already in orbit. Honeybee is due in 2027.

Pixxel said on Monday it had closed a $100 million Series C round co-led by Singapore's Temasek and London-listed Seraphim Space Investment Trust. The company called it the largest single funding round any Indian space technology firm has raised. Combined with earlier cheques, Pixxel now sits on $195 million of paid-in capital.
New money came from 360 ONE Asset and South Korea's IMM Investment. Radical Ventures and growX Ventures, both already on the cap table, put more in. Google backed an earlier round and was not named among the Series C participants. No valuation was disclosed. People who spoke to Moneycontrol earlier in the year had put the company in a $450 million to $500 million range while the raise was still being assembled.
Seraphim had already told the London market part of the story. On 4 August the trust said it would put $25 million into Pixxel from the first draw of a £137 million C Share issue. That stake is now inside the $100 million close.
Awais Ahmed, who founded Pixxel with Kshitij Khandelwal, put the purpose of the money in a single sentence. "Years ago, we set out to build a health monitor for the planet. Hyperspectral imaging gave us a fundamentally new way to see Earth. This new investment gives us the scale to turn that vision into planetary infrastructure." Mark Boggett, Seraphim's chief executive, said the firm was adding to a position it already held because Pixxel sat across Earth observation, sovereign systems and India's private space sector at the same time.
Hyperspectral cameras split reflected light into dozens or hundreds of narrow bands. A conventional satellite camera records three colour channels. A hyperspectral sensor can pick out the chemical fingerprint of a crop under stress, a mineral in soil, a leak of methane, or a change in water quality that does not show up in a normal photograph. That is the product Pixxel sold first.
Six Firefly satellites, launched across 2025, now form what the company calls the highest-resolution commercial hyperspectral constellation in orbit. The next family is Honeybee. The first of those craft is scheduled for 2027. Honeybee is meant to add shortwave infrared, then synthetic aperture radar and a high-resolution optical camera, so that a customer who needs weather-proof imaging or a sharper picture of a single plant can buy it from the same vendor.
Software sits on top of the fleet. Aurora is a browser tool that folds the different sensor streams into alerts and maps that a ministry or a mine can act on. Ahmed has said for years that the long business is not selling a picture. It is selling a watch on a field, a pipeline or a coastline that updates itself.
The same cheque is meant to change how the satellites are built. Ahmed told SpaceNews the Gigapixxel factory in India is due to open within months and should lift annual output from about 25 satellites to 100. The Los Angeles lab now builds one or two craft at a time. The plan there is 10 to 15 a year, including Honeybee buses. That split keeps production in both countries where the company already has staff and export licences.
Contracts give the factory something to fill. Pixxel has work with NASA and with the US National Reconnaissance Office. It has won several iDEX challenges from India's Ministry of Defence. IN-SPACe selected it to lead a 12-satellite public-private Earth observation constellation, the first of that kind in the country. The firm has also described an orbital data-centre demonstration satellite, to be flown with Sarvam, as a later test of processing images in space rather than dumping raw files to the ground.
India opened its space sector to private firms only in the last few years. Most of the early money went into launch. Pixxel's round is a bet that the more durable business is the data that comes after the rocket. Temasek's presence, and a London-listed space trust putting a disclosed $25 million behind it, tells other limited partners that an Indian Earth-observation company can now clear a nine-figure cheque without a government as the lead investor.
What the round does not settle is price. Without a published valuation, later investors will have to reconstruct the cap table from the $195 million cumulative figure and from whatever liquidation preferences sit in the Series C papers. Customers will judge the company on whether Honeybee flies in 2027 and whether Aurora can sell a subscription that outlasts a single government contract. Those are the two dates the factory and the software team now have to meet.
