Sliman Mansour, one of the most influential figures in contemporary Palestinian art, has died at the age of 79.
Mansour was best known for the painting Camel of Hardship, an image that became emblematic of endurance under occupation and displacement. His work consistently returned to themes of land, identity and sumud, the idea of steadfastness.
Born in 1947, Mansour trained and worked through decades of political upheaval. He helped shape a visual language that connected personal experience to collective memory. His paintings, drawings and later mixed-media pieces circulated widely in exhibitions across the region and beyond.
