Pakistan Army Chief Visits Tehran Amid Push for Regional Stability

Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Monday for talks with senior Iranian officials, the latest in a series of visits aimed at easing tensions in the region.

Accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Munir met Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and later held discussions with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Iranian state media reported that the conversations covered bilateral cooperation and the broader situation in West Asia.

Pakistan has positioned itself as a mediator since the outbreak of hostilities earlier this year. Munir has travelled to Iran multiple times in 2026, including earlier visits in April, May and July. Officials in Islamabad described the current trip as part of efforts to promote a peaceful and comprehensive resolution of the conflict.

The visit comes as the United States prepares further economic measures against Iran and as Tehran has warned that support for those measures by other countries would be treated as hostile. Oman’s foreign minister is also scheduled to travel to Tehran for separate talks.

Both sides emphasised the importance of regional stability. Whether the latest contacts will produce concrete progress on stalled negotiations remains to be seen.
