The National Testing Agency declared UGC-NET June 2026 results for 84 subjects on Friday night. Candidates can download scorecards at ugcnet.nta.nic.in. English, Commerce and Sociology are missing from the list. Those three papers will be held again on 9 and 10 September after an expert committee found factual, typographical, translation and language errors, and a run of questions reused from earlier tests.
The agency's notice puts the June sitting in numbers. It registered 7,73,806 candidates across the 84 subjects now being scored: 4,30,195 women, 3,43,575 men and 36 recorded as a third gender. Of those, 6,07,151 appeared. The exam ran in computer-based mode on 22, 23, 24, 25, 29 and 30 June, with a 5 July re-sit in Jalandhar after a technical failure at one centre, across 655 centres in 286 cities.
Qualification broke into three bands. Some 4,241 candidates cleared both the Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor cut. Another 45,904 cleared Assistant Professor plus PhD admission. A further 97,434 cleared PhD admission only. Combined, 1,47,579 people crossed at least one line. Category-wise cut-offs for the 84 subjects were posted with the results.
NTA warned English, Commerce and Sociology candidates that a login attempt now may return "Invalid Application Number/Password." Their scorecards will appear only after the fresh papers. English is scheduled for 9 September, shift one. Commerce is the same day, shift two. Sociology is 10 September, shift one. There is no extra fee. City slips and admit cards will be issued separately. The agency said the re-sit will not delay JRF allocation or e-certificates for the other 84 subjects.
The three-paper recall follows a pattern the NTA has had to explain more than once this year. An expert committee reviewed the scripts after complaints and found errors plus repetition of a large number of previously used items. The Centre this week also appointed two directors and a joint director to the agency after a run of paper-leak cases in other examinations. Those appointments sit in the same week as Friday's result dump, which is not a coincidence in the public argument about trust in national tests.
UGC-NET is the gate for college teaching posts and for public research money. A June result that arrives at the end of August already compresses the calendar for assistant professor hiring and for PhD admissions that use the score. Holding three large humanities and commerce papers into mid-September stretches that calendar again for tens of thousands of candidates who cannot yet know where they stand.
The practical step for everyone else is simple. Log in, print the card, read the subject cut-off. For the three withheld papers, wait for the city intimation and treat 9 and 10 September as a new exam, not a formality.
