NIA Conducts Searches in Five States Over Cyber Attacks Linked to Operation Sindoor

The National Investigation Agency conducted searches at five locations across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Bihar and Delhi on 25 August 2026 in a cyber terrorism case linked to distributed denial-of-service attacks on 54 government websites during Operation Sindoor.

The searches form part of an ongoing investigation into organised cyber operations that targeted official portals. Operation Sindoor refers to a period of heightened digital attacks on Indian government infrastructure.

NIA teams examined digital devices, documents and communication records at the identified sites. The agency has not released the names of the accused or the specific technical methods used beyond the DDoS classification.

Cyber attacks on government websites have increased in volume and sophistication in recent years. The present case is being treated under provisions relating to cyber terrorism because of the scale and the targeting of critical public services.

Further technical analysis of seized material is under way. The NIA has previously registered similar cases involving coordinated campaigns against Indian digital assets.

No arrests were immediately announced. The investigation continues under the supervision of the NIA’s cyber division.
