Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have agreed a deal worth up to £123 million ($166 million) for Bradley Barcola, a person with knowledge of the transaction told the Associated Press on Saturday. Neither club has issued a statement. The window closes on Tuesday.
The structure, reported by the BBC and confirmed in outline by the AP source, is £106 million guaranteed and up to £17 million in add-ons. The Athletic said Barcola will sign a five-year contract. He is expected to take a medical this weekend.
PSG had put the asking price at £145 million after Barcola declined a new deal following the 2026 World Cup. Liverpool came in below that figure and still produced what would be a record fee for a player leaving Ligue 1.
What Barcola has done
Barcola is 23. He joined PSG from Olympique Lyonnais in 2023 for a reported £38.5 million. In three seasons in Paris he made 152 appearances, scored 39 goals and added 37 assists. The trophy list is dense: back-to-back Champions League titles in 2024-25 and 2025-26, three Ligue 1 championships, two Coupes de France, a Uefa Super Cup and a Fifa Intercontinental Cup.
He is right-footed and prefers the left wing. That profile is why Liverpool moved. Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah have left Anfield across the past two summers. Cody Gakpo remains, but the BBC noted that Barcola's arrival raises questions about Gakpo's minutes and, in time, his future.
Two years remain on Barcola's PSG contract, which runs to June 2028. That residual term is why Paris could still demand a large fee. It is also why this window was the last chance to extract a blockbuster price before the contract entered its final year.
Where the money sits
Liverpool spent £125 million on Alexander Isak and £116 million on Florian Wirtz last summer. Barcola would be the third attacking outlay above £100 million in two windows. Andoni Iraola, in his first summer as manager, has already added Ronald Araujo on loan, French centre back Jeremy Jacquet and Spanish forward Victor Munoz. Barcola is the attacking piece that follows Yan Diomande's decision to join Real Madrid earlier in the window.
The Premier League's recent market set the floor. Elliot Anderson moved from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City for £116 million. Morgan Rogers went from Aston Villa to Chelsea for £117 million. PSG used those deals as comparables when it posted the £145 million tag. Liverpool's counter, £106 million plus add-ons, sits in the same band without matching the initial demand.
Reuters contacted both clubs for comment on Saturday and had not received a reply at the time of its report. Until a joint statement or an FA filing appears, the agreement rests on the AP source, the BBC's numbers and The Athletic's contract length.
Why Paris sold
Barcola did not force a confrontation, according to L'Equipe. He simply declined to extend. For a club that has just won a second straight Champions League, that refusal still had a price. Keep him one more year and the fee falls. Sell now and the number stays in nine figures.
Arsenal had been in the conversation. Liverpool's personal terms, reported earlier in the window as running to June 2032, appear to have settled the destination. A medical this weekend is the remaining operational step. Registration before Tuesday is the legal one.
What changes at Anfield
Iraola inherits an attack that has been rebuilt at speed. Isak and Wirtz arrived last year. Barcola would give the left side a player who has already won the Champions League twice before his 24th birthday. Gakpo's role becomes the first tactical question. The second is how quickly Barcola adjusts to the Premier League's tempo after three seasons of Ligue 1 and European nights at the Parc des Princes.
For PSG the sale is a balance-sheet event as much as a sporting one. The squad that won Europe twice still has depth on the wings. The fee, if add-ons land, would be the largest outgoing in the club's history and a marker for what a Ligue 1 attacker now costs once the Premier League is the buyer.
Tuesday is the deadline. The medical is this weekend. The clubs have not spoken in public. The number is already on the record.
