All nine people aboard a Learjet were killed when the aircraft crashed in South Florida on 2 November 2026. The plane had departed Texas bound for the Bahamas. National Transportation Safety Board investigators said the aircraft likely began breaking apart in mid-air before it struck the ground.
Among those killed were a 20-year-old co-pilot, members of a Texas family travelling with friends, and an Austin technology entrepreneur. The crash occurred near a residential area; no one on the ground was reported injured. Emergency crews reached the site quickly, but there were no survivors.
Preliminary information indicated that the crew declared an emergency shortly before the aircraft descended rapidly. Audio from the final moments was described by a friend of the co-pilot as extremely distressing. The NTSB has recovered the flight data and cockpit voice recorders and is examining maintenance records, weather conditions and the sequence of structural failure.
The Learjet model involved has a long service history. Investigators will determine whether a specific mechanical issue, weather encounter or other factor initiated the breakup. The crash is the second fatal private-jet accident in Florida this year.
Families of the victims have been notified. The investigation is expected to take months. In the interim, the NTSB has not issued any immediate safety recommendations pending further analysis of the wreckage and recorded data.
