Kazakhstan was named first in the unofficial team table of the 6th World Nomad Games after a recount on 7 September. Askat Alagozov, press secretary to Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, said the organising committee had decided to count the medals of three Kazakh athletes separately. That change moved Kazakhstan above the hosts on gold.
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Tourism and Sports had already published 74 medals: 32 gold, 20 silver and 22 bronze. Kyrgyzstan finished with more metal overall, 84 medals, but 30 gold, 35 silver and 19 bronze. Russia, Mongolia and Uzbekistan completed the top five in the table that both sides now accept. The competition itself ended on 6 September.
The argument began as soon as the last final was ridden. Organisers first posted a table that put Kyrgyzstan first with 30 gold and Kazakhstan second with 29. Kazakh officials said they had checked every event and would not move off 32. Social media in both countries demanded an official list. The Games' own sports agency had earlier said there is no official country ranking, and that results are recorded sport by sport. The political need for a winner overtook that rule.
Alagozov's sentence about three athletes is the entire mechanism. Team events and paired traditional codes can be counted as one medal for the country or as one medal for each named rider. Counting three Kazakhs separately added the golds that flipped the table. He congratulated "Kazakh brothers" and said the real result was the manner of the contest. That line is the host's way of conceding the count without conceding the week.
The World Nomad Games put mounted games, wrestling, eagle hunting and other steppe codes on a public calendar. This edition shared Bishkek with a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said he would attend the opening. The medal dispute is smaller than that diplomacy and larger than a box score, because both publics treat gold as standing.
On the last day Kazakhstan lost two national-team finals, which is why the early host table looked plausible. The recount did not add new events. It changed how names already on the sheet were tallied. That is a bookkeeping fight, not a doping fight. It still needed a presidential spokesman to end it.
What remains is the agency's original point. If the Games do not keep an official team table, then every edition will end with two ministries publishing two lists. If they do keep one, the rules for team and individual medals have to be written before the first heat, not after the last. Alagozov closed the 2026 file. He did not write the rule for 2028.
