Joheirry Mola Dominguez was crowned Miss World 2026 on Saturday night at April 2 Square in Nha Trang, Vietnam. She is 24, from the Dominican Republic, and the second woman from her country to win the title, 44 years after Mariasela Alvarez in 1982. She succeeds Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, the 2025 winner. One hundred and eleven contestants entered the 73rd edition of the pageant.
Elisabeth Reynes Alabern of Spain finished first runner-up. Taanusiya Chetty of Malaysia finished second runner-up. The last six also included Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc of Vietnam, Snit Habteab Tewoldemedhin of Eritrea and Romanda Hombir of South Africa. Asia Rose Simpson of the Philippines left in the Top 12 after reaching the continental cut as one of two Asia-Pacific names, with Bao Ngoc.
Mola holds a degree in Business Management and Administration from Universidad Iberoamericana. She teaches literature and social studies in English and has worked as a television correspondent. The Miss World organisation lists her as an educator and community advocate.
The answers that closed the night
In the first question round she was asked what she brought as Miss World Americas and Caribbean. She said she wanted to put on the table a woman who had broken barriers and who treated purpose as larger than physical beauty, and that as a teacher she wanted to "prepare seats" for girls who would need them later.
The deciding question asked which Beauty With a Purpose project she had supported at home and how she would grow it with the crown. She said her project takes English programmes to children in vulnerable communities. Language, she said, is a tool that keeps working for the rest of a life, and it is the same tool that let the women on that stage speak at all. The quote is uneven on the page because she was speaking in a second language under lights. The point was plain: English as a practical door, not as an ornament.
What the title now attaches to
Miss World has spent two decades selling Beauty With a Purpose harder than evening gowns. A winner who already teaches in English gives that slogan a simple test. Either the organisation funds language classes in the communities she named, or the line stays as pageant copy. Vietnam's host run put Bao Ngoc in the last six on home ground. That is a standard host dividend. The Dominican win is the rarer result: a second title for a Caribbean country that had waited since 1982.
Megan Young remains the Philippines' only Miss World, from 2013. Simpson's Top 12 finish does not change that ledger. For Santo Domingo the practical follow-up is whether Mola keeps the teaching brief while she travels the organisation's calendar. The crown is a year long. The classroom work she described is not.
