Jaishankar Meets Putin in Moscow, Discusses Trade, Energy and High-Tech Cooperation

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on 24 or 25 August 2026 and delivered a personal message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The discussion focused on expanding trade, energy supplies, fertiliser deliveries and cooperation in high-technology sectors. Jaishankar was also scheduled to meet Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

India and Russia maintain a long-standing strategic partnership that has remained active even as Russia’s relations with Western countries deteriorated after 2022. Energy imports, particularly oil and fertilisers, form a core commercial pillar of the relationship. High-tech and defence-related cooperation continue under existing frameworks.
