Israeli strikes on Kfar Rumman kill 11, including two children and two medics

Israeli warplanes hit a three-storey house in Kfar Rumman shortly after midnight on Monday. Lebanon's National News Agency said nine people died in that blast, among them two children, and that five more were wounded. A separate drone strike on a car in the same town killed two medics. The health ministry's early count differed on the split between the house and the vehicle. Across the two strikes the death toll settled at 11. Search crews were still in the rubble after dawn.

Kfar Rumman sits in the Nabatieh district, a few hundred metres from the strip the Israeli army calls its security zone. Villagers had come home after the June truce. An AFP photographer found school books and broken furniture on the pile. L'Orient Today named the household in the house as the Farhat family and said two of the dead were infants. The medics belonged to the Risala Scouts of the Amal movement, a Hezbollah ally. One of them was 18, his service said. A third medic was wounded. The car was hit in front of the Said supermarket.

Israel sent no online evacuation warning for Kfar Rumman. It did issue one for Deir al-Zahrani, where the army said it was striking a Hezbollah facility used to launch an explosive drone. Other overnight fire landed on Nabatieh, Arab Salim, Dohat Kfar Roummane and the heights of Soueida and Jabal Rafih. Sunday's raids, which Israel described as a reply to two Hezbollah drones flown at troops in occupied ground, had already killed seven people and wounded 20, Lebanese authorities said.

The Israeli military told Reuters it was looking into the reports. It did not, at first, answer questions about whether it knew children and medics were at the aim points, or why Kfar Rumman received no warning. The standing line from the army is that Hezbollah activity forces it to act. Hezbollah has not claimed the household as a military site. The absence of a warning is the fact that will sit in every later legal file.

Lebanon's health ministry listed eight dead in the house strike in one bulletin, including a child and a woman, and 11 injured, among them four children, two women and a paramedic from the Islamic Health Association, a Hezbollah-linked service. The second strike, it said, killed one Risala medic and wounded two. State media and Reuters put the combined dead at 11. Those gaps are normal in the first hours. They do not change the shape of the night: a house with a family inside, a car with rescuers inside, no warning for that town.

Residents of the Nabatieh district have been moving again toward Sidon and Beirut. The district has taken successive displacement waves since the September 2024 war. Each short truce brings people back to the same streets. Each new strike empties them. President Joseph Aoun has asked Washington to intervene. That request now sits next to a death list that includes two children and two medics in a single night.

The June pause never removed Israeli aircraft from the south or Hezbollah's claim to resist the remaining occupation. What changed on Monday was the density of fire on inhabited streets and the decision, in Kfar Rumman, not to tell civilians to leave. Deir al-Zahrani got the Arabic warning. Kfar Rumman got the jet. That difference is now part of the record, whatever the investigation in Tel Aviv later writes about targets and collateral damage.

Heavy machines were still working the site on Monday morning. The health ministry, the NNA and the civil defence lists will be reconciled over the coming days. The names of the Farhat dead, and of the 18-year-old medic, are the part of the story that will not be revised.
