The Israel Defense Forces carried out a drone strike in southern Syria on Saturday against a fighter it accused of preparing an improvised explosive device attack on Israeli troops operating in the area, Army Radio reported.
The strike forms part of continued Israeli military activity inside Syrian territory following earlier incursions. Officials have framed the operations as necessary to prevent threats along the border and to degrade remaining hostile capabilities.
Separately, the IDF claimed an airstrike in Gaza killed Sharif al-Hasanat, described as a Hamas company commander linked to the Deir al-Balah Battalion of the Al-Qassam Brigades. The strike occurred despite an ongoing ceasefire arrangement, prompting accusations of violation from Palestinian sources.
Both actions reflect the persistence of low-intensity conflict across multiple fronts even as formal diplomatic tracks remain limited. Israel has maintained a security presence in southern Syria and continues targeted operations against Hamas infrastructure in Gaza.
Regional monitors note that the dual developments increase the risk of retaliatory cycles involving Hezbollah or other actors. No immediate large-scale response has been reported from either Damascus or Hamas leadership.
The incidents add to a pattern of calibrated strikes that keep pressure on adversaries while avoiding broader escalation that would draw in additional states.
