The Israel Defense Forces reported on Saturday that it launched a drone strike against a fighter in southern Syria. The military said the individual was in the final stages of preparing an improvised explosive device attack against Israeli troops currently occupying the area.
Israeli Army Radio first carried the report. The IDF stated the activity posed an immediate threat to its soldiers and that it would continue operations to remove such threats.
Syria’s foreign ministry described the strike as a blatant violation of its territory. Syrian state media reported one person was injured when a drone hit a vehicle near Beit Jinn village west of Damascus.
The incident occurs amid ongoing Israeli presence in parts of southern Syria following earlier operations linked to the aftermath of the Syrian civil war and related regional tensions.
