IndiGo will charge more for fuel on every new booking made from 00:01 IST on Tuesday, 6 October 2026. On domestic flights the levy now runs from ₹375 to ₹1,300 depending on distance. In April the same bands ran from ₹275 to ₹950. The airline said the change was a measured adjustment and that it would keep watching aviation turbine fuel prices.
The domestic table is specific. Flights up to 500 km go from ₹275 to ₹375. The 501 to 1,000 km band goes from ₹400 to ₹600. The 1,001 to 1,500 km band rises by half, to ₹900. The 1,501 to 2,000 km band goes from ₹800 to ₹1,150. Sectors longer than 2,000 km go from ₹950 to ₹1,300. On the shortest and the longest bands the increase is about 36 percent. A passenger booking a Delhi-Chennai style sector on Tuesday morning pays ₹350 more than the same booking on Monday night, before taxes.
International bands move by more in rupees. SAARC flights up to 500 km go from ₹900 to ₹1,000. SAARC flights beyond 500 km go from ₹2,500 to ₹3,000. Southeast Asia, previously ₹3,500 on sectors up to 2,000 km, is now ₹5,500. Gulf flights up to 2,000 km go from ₹3,000 to ₹5,500. The Financial Express put North and East Asia in the same ₹5,500 band, Africa at ₹6,000, and Europe as high as ₹10,000. Business Standard's account stopped at the Gulf and Southeast Asia figures. The gap matters for anyone booking a longer haul: the ceiling is not ₹5,500 if Europe is in the circular.
This is the second revision since IndiGo introduced a fuel charge in March. The first version was a flat ₹425 on domestic sectors. April turned it into a distance table. October widens that table. The charge sits on top of the fare. It is not a tax. It is the airline's way of moving part of the fuel bill onto the ticket without reprinting every base fare overnight.
The fuel bill is the reason given. Aviation turbine fuel is about 40 percent of operating cost for an Indian carrier. In Delhi, ATF has risen from about ₹110 a litre in July to ₹137, close to 25 percent, with a 13 percent rise inside October and a month-on-month jump above 14 percent. The airline tied the volatility to the war in West Asia and to crude supply. Prices at this level are the highest in a decade. Brent crude was still above 100 dollars a barrel on Monday morning, even after a small dip.
The calendar makes the charge sharper. Bookings from Tuesday land at the start of the festive travel window. A family of four on a sector over 2,000 km pays ₹5,200 in fuel charges before the fare. On a 1,001 to 1,500 km sector the same family pays ₹3,600. Existing tickets are not rewritten. The cut-off is the booking clock, not the departure clock. Anyone who ticketed on Monday keeps the April band. Anyone who waits until Tuesday does not.
Other airlines had not matched the table by Monday evening. In past fuel spikes they have followed within days, because ATF invoices do not differ much between carriers buying at the same Indian airports. If they do not follow, IndiGo gives up some price-sensitive passengers on short sectors, where ₹100 is a visible slice of a cheap fare. If they do follow, the October table becomes the market table.
The open number is whether ₹137 a litre in Delhi is the peak. IndiGo said it would adjust again if it had to. A further rise in Gulf crude, or a longer closure of Hormuz, feeds the next circular. A fall would not automatically reverse Tuesday's bands. Airlines have been quicker to add fuel charges than to retire them.
