Gross goods and services tax collections in India rose 22.9 percent year-on-year to Rs 2.31 lakh crore in October 2026, according to provisional data released by the government on 1 November. The figure is the second-highest monthly total on record after April 2026 and the fourth time in the current fiscal year that collections have crossed Rs 2 lakh crore. Net collections after refunds stood at Rs 2.03 lakh crore, a 25.6 percent increase.
Domestic GST revenue grew 15.8 percent to Rs 1.59 lakh crore. Revenue from imports climbed 42.2 percent to Rs 72,246 crore. Within the gross total, Central GST contributed Rs 42,935 crore, State GST Rs 51,340 crore and Integrated GST more than Rs 1.37 lakh crore. Refunds issued during the month rose 6.5 percent to Rs 27,934 crore.
For the April-to-October period, gross collections reached Rs 14.77 lakh crore, up 13.2 percent from the same months a year earlier. Net collections for the seven months stood at Rs 12.69 lakh crore, a 13 percent rise. Maharashtra recorded the highest state-level collection at Rs 35,150 crore, followed by Karnataka and Gujarat.
The October jump coincides with festive-season demand and a sharp increase in import-related tax. The growth rate for the month is the fastest in more than four years. Whether the pace continues into the winter months will depend on domestic consumption and the trajectory of imports. The data provide a concrete measure of revenue momentum midway through the fiscal year.
