India dismissed Pakistan for 55 in 18.1 overs in the Women's T20 Asia Cup at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 5 September, then chased 56 in 8.4 overs for a seven-wicket win. Shree Charani took 3 for 7. Prema Rawat took 3 for 9. Deepti Sharma took 2 for 5. Harmanpreet Kaur was unbeaten on 18. Charani was named player of the match.
Pakistan chose to bat. Muneeba Ali made 13 before Shafali Verma bowled her. Charani struck twice in the sixth over, removing Gull Feroza for nought and Shawaal Zulfiqar for 14. Pakistan were 29 for 3, then 32 for 4, then 45 for 7 in the 13th. The last three wickets added little. The innings closed at 55. That is Pakistan's lowest total in women's T20 internationals. Their previous floor was 63 against India at the 2012 Asia Cup in Guangzhou. Some scorebooks also list 56 against New Zealand in Dubai two years ago. Saturday's 55 sits below both.
The chase was not quite a procession. Shafali hit a six off the first ball. Fatima Sana then took three wickets for 17, removing Shafali and Pratika Rawal in her first over and Smriti Mandhana lbw in her second. Harmanpreet and Deepti stopped the slide. The captain hit a four and a six over long-on to end it. India finished 57 for 3 with 68 balls unused.
The win is India's third in three group matches, after Thailand and Hong Kong, China. They have six points and first place in Group A. The semi-final is booked. Pakistan have two points and must beat Hong Kong, China on Monday to go through.
Harmanpreet, on the same day, became the first captain to lead a side in 150 women's T20 internationals. That record sat under the result rather than above it. The bowling figures are the story that will travel. Two young spinners shared six wickets on a Dubai pitch that offered enough grip. Pakistan's top order never built a stand after the sixth over.
India have now beaten Pakistan 15 times in women's T20Is. The gulf on this afternoon was larger than the rivalry usually allows. A 55-all-out card in a derby is rare enough that the bowling spells, not the chase, will be the clip that coaches keep.
Monday's Pakistan-Hong Kong game decides whether the losing finalist of this group even reaches the last four. India's next task is a semi-final against whoever comes second in the other group. The 55 will be a footnote by then if the bowling does not repeat. On Saturday it was the whole match.
