Heavy rain on Monday and into Tuesday left large parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region under water.
Authorities issued a red alert for all 11 districts of Delhi. Schools and many shops remained shut. In Gurgaon at least 12 school buses were submerged, leaving children stranded for hours. Traffic moved slowly across major corridors and flight operations at Delhi airport faced delays and cancellations the previous day, with nearly 400 flights affected and 26 cancelled.
Gurgaon authorities issued a work-from-home advisory for Tuesday for corporate offices and educational institutions. The India Meteorological Department warned of continued thunderstorms and showers with a high near 32 degrees Celsius.
The latest spell continues a monsoon season that has repeatedly exposed drainage shortfalls across the region. Local officials have pointed to clogged drains and inadequate capacity as recurring factors.
Rescue and traffic police units remained deployed to clear key stretches and assist stranded vehicles and pedestrians.
