Heavy Rain Floods Delhi Again, Schools and Shops Shut

Heavy rain returned to Delhi on Tuesday, flooding roads, closing schools and shops, and stranding passengers after at least 12 school buses were submerged in Gurgaon.

The latest downpour continues a monsoon season that has repeatedly overwhelmed drainage systems in the National Capital Region. Low-lying areas and underpasses filled quickly, disrupting traffic and public transport.

Local authorities ordered school closures and advised residents to avoid non-essential travel. Power outages and waterlogging reports came from multiple districts.

Urban planners have long identified inadequate storm-water infrastructure as a core vulnerability. Each major spell of rain exposes the same bottlenecks: clogged drains, encroached water channels and rapid runoff from paved surfaces.

The weather office forecast further showers in the coming days. Recovery work, including pumping water from critical junctions, began immediately after the heaviest bursts passed.

Residents and businesses face repeated interruptions that compound economic and health costs across the season.
