Heavy Rain Causes Severe Waterlogging Across Delhi-NCR, Schools and Shops Shut
Another spell of monsoon rain flooded roads in Delhi and Gurugram, submerged school buses, delayed flights and prompted a work-from-home advisory in Gurugram.

Heavy rain on 24 and 25 August 2026 caused widespread waterlogging across Delhi and the National Capital Region, forcing schools and many shops to close and stranding children in submerged school buses in Gurugram.
The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for all 11 districts of Delhi. Ayanagar recorded about 69.7 mm of rain in 24 hours and Palam 68.8 mm. Maximum temperatures fell to around 32 C, below normal.
In Gurugram at least 12 school buses were submerged, leaving children stranded for hours. Traffic on NH-48 near Narsinghpur was severely disrupted. Authorities in Gurugram issued a work-from-home advisory for corporate offices and educational institutions on 25 August.
Indira Gandhi International Airport saw 16 flights cancelled and 132 delayed according to tracking data. Similar problems have recurred through the monsoon season, highlighting persistent drainage shortfalls in Delhi-NCR.
The IMD forecast continued cloudy skies with the possibility of further thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rain in parts of the capital and surrounding areas through 25 August.
Local administrations suspended outdoor activities and advised residents to avoid waterlogged stretches. The repeated flooding has drawn attention to the capacity of existing storm-water systems under intense monsoon spells.
