Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alerts Cover 25 Indian States

The India Meteorological Department issued heavy rain and thunderstorm warnings for 25 states on August 25. Gusty winds of 50 to 75 km/h accompany the forecast in several districts.

Delhi and the National Capital Region are expected to see partly cloudy skies with the chance of thunderstorms and light to moderate rain. Some stations recorded more than 65 mm in the previous 24 hours, causing waterlogging and traffic delays. Schools and offices in Gurugram shifted to work-from-home arrangements.

Jammu and Kashmir faces the strongest wind alerts, with speeds up to 75 km/h possible in Udhampur, Ganderbal, Kupwara and other districts. Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and parts of Maharashtra also carry yellow or orange alerts for heavy rain and lightning.

A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is feeding moisture into eastern and central India. The department advised residents in hilly areas to watch for landslides and urban areas to prepare for waterlogging.

The monsoon remains active across much of the country. Local administrations have opened control rooms and stocked relief material. Flight and road disruptions are likely in the worst-affected zones until the system moves east.
