FIFA has imposed a 10-match ban on Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes for his role in clashes with Spanish players after the World Cup final.
Several other Argentina squad members received shorter bans and fines. The disciplinary panel cited post-match incidents that occurred on the pitch and in the tunnel area following the final whistle.
Paredes had been a regular in the national team midfield during the tournament. The suspension will keep him out of upcoming international fixtures and may affect club appearances depending on competition calendars.
FIFA’s statement did not detail individual actions but emphasised that player conduct after the final whistle falls under the same disciplinary standards as on-field play. Argentina’s federation has not yet announced whether it will appeal.
The ruling arrives as both national teams prepare for the next cycle of qualifiers and friendlies. It serves as a reminder that high-stakes matches can generate sanctions that outlast the tournament itself.
