The Union government notified the Master Plan for Delhi-2047 on 21 August 2026.
The plan aims to create approximately 40 lakh new affordable housing units and involves private-sector developers in urban growth. It also projects a new model for handling an estimated 25,764 tonnes of daily waste by 2047.
The notification marks the formal start of implementation for the capital’s long-term spatial and infrastructure strategy. Earlier drafts had circulated for public comment.
Key elements include densification in selected zones, improved public transport corridors and stricter environmental norms for new construction.
Delhi’s existing Master Plan 2021 has guided development for two decades. The 2047 document updates projections for population, employment and resource use under current demographic trends.
