Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said India is negotiating trade agreements with countries and blocs that together represent a combined GDP of 15 trillion dollars.
He added that India is pursuing free trade agreements with 8 to 9 more blocs, with the goal of covering 75 percent of global trade.
The comments come as India continues bilateral and multilateral trade talks amid shifting global tariff environments. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to visit Canada and the United States from August 25 to September 2, including the G20 Finance Ministers meeting.
Separately, regulatory reforms in the medical device sector are under way to improve ease of doing business. The statements reflect ongoing efforts to expand export markets and reduce dependence on any single trading partner.
