The Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by Houthi forces toward southern Saudi Arabia on 2 November.
Saudi Civil Defence issued early warnings through the national emergency alert platform for the cities of Najran, Taif, Abha and Khamis Mushait. Residents were told to seek shelter, avoid exposed areas, and refrain from gathering or photographing. The authority later sounded the all-clear, stating the threat had passed.
The coalition statement confirmed the destruction of the missile. No damage or casualties were reported in the Saudi cities. The alerts arrived amid weeks of escalating hostilities between the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis in Yemen.
Houthi media have renewed threats against Saudi oil facilities and aviation. One statement claimed Aramco sites remained within range and that investments there faced losses. The group has also warned airlines against using Saudi airspace except over Mecca and Medina.
Fighting in Yemen reignited in July after a 2022 truce collapsed. The United Nations has reported more than 1,600 people killed since then. An earlier Houthi strike on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport in October killed at least 13 people, the deadliest on Saudi soil in years.
Saudi authorities have repeatedly stated that the Houthis will face consequences for attacks on airports, the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, and civilian infrastructure. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has chaired cabinet sessions that reaffirmed this position.
The latest interception follows a pattern of Houthi ballistic missile and drone launches directed at southern and western Saudi cities. Civil Defence has issued similar temporary alerts in recent weeks, each followed by all-clear notices once the threat was neutralised.
The coalition continues military operations inside Yemen aimed at reducing Houthi capabilities. Saudi officials maintain that the kingdom will not tolerate threats to its security or to maritime navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.
No independent confirmation of the missile’s exact trajectory or launch site was immediately available. Houthi sources have not issued a specific claim for this particular launch as of the latest reports.
Residents in the alerted cities were advised to monitor official channels and avoid speculation. The brief nature of the warnings indicates successful interception before any impact.
The episode adds to a series of cross-border attacks that have strained the fragile regional situation. Saudi Civil Defence continues to emphasise reliance on official sources rather than unverified reports during such incidents.
Further launches remain possible as the underlying conflict in Yemen shows no immediate sign of de-escalation. The coalition’s ability to intercept has limited damage so far in the latest rounds.
