The Central Bureau of Investigation extradited Sourabh Chandrakar from Oman on 1 November 2026. Chandrakar is described as a promoter of the Mahadev Online Book betting syndicate and a key accused in cases involving an alleged Rs 6,000-crore illegal gambling and money-laundering operation.
A CBI team escorted him to India after Royal Oman Police detained him on the basis of an Interpol Red Corner Notice. The CBI and Enforcement Directorate had submitted formal extradition requests once his location in Oman was confirmed. He had been sought since 2023.
Chandrakar faces charges in two CBI cases in which charge sheets have already been filed and in an ED prosecution complaint. He will undergo a medical examination, receive a transit remand, and be produced before the CBI Special Judge in Raipur on 2 November. He is from Durg district in Chhattisgarh.
The Mahadev app cases were transferred to the CBI in 2024 after the Chhattisgarh government requested central investigation. The ED has pursued the money-laundering aspects. Investigators allege the syndicate operated online betting platforms that accepted deposits from Indian users and routed proceeds through layered accounts.
The Red Corner Notice enabled the Oman detention. Indian agencies coordinated with Omani authorities on the extradition paperwork and evidence package. The successful return is one of several recent extraditions in financial-crime cases involving Gulf jurisdictions.
Chandrakar’s arrival allows the CBI to proceed with further custodial interrogation and trial preparation in Raipur. Co-accused remain at large or are already in custody in related cases. The agency has not released additional details on the evidence that will be presented at the first production.
The alleged scale of Rs 6,000 crore places the matter among the larger online-betting investigations pursued by central agencies. Similar platforms have faced action under the Information Technology Act and money-laundering statutes. User complaints and bank-transaction data formed part of the original state-level inquiries.
Oman’s cooperation followed standard mutual-legal-assistance channels once the Red Notice was executed. The transit from Muscat to India occurred on 1 November evening. Local police in Raipur are expected to handle the initial court appearance and remand proceedings.
The extradition does not resolve the wider network. Other promoters and operators linked to Mahadev and similar apps continue to be traced. The CBI has filed charge sheets naming multiple individuals; Chandrakar’s presence in India allows those cases to move toward trial.
Financial investigators will examine accounts and digital records once custodial access is granted. The ED’s parallel complaint focuses on the proceeds-of-crime aspect. Both agencies are expected to seek further remand periods after the initial production.
The case illustrates the use of Interpol notices and bilateral extradition arrangements to recover accused persons who leave India. Chandrakar’s return on 1 November closes one chapter in the multi-year investigation into the Mahadev syndicate.
