Britain called for restraint on August 22 after China launched military drills around Taiwan.
The Foreign Office said the exercises increased the risk of escalation. It repeated earlier calls for all parties to avoid actions that could raise tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
China has conducted large-scale drills near the island several times in recent years, often in response to political developments in Taipei or visits by foreign officials. Taiwan’s government routinely condemns the manoeuvres as attempts at intimidation.
